Netflix Streaming Accounts for 20% of Total US Bandwidth During Peak Time

Bandwidth management equipment vendor Sandvine is reporting that Netflix represents more than 20% of downstream Internet traffic during peak times in the U.S. — and is heaviest in the primetime hours of 8 to 10 p.m.  Take a second and read that again.  20% of all downstream traffic during peak times is used by Netflix streaming.  Thats a serious amount of bandwidth, and something that is sure to increase by the day.  Netflix currently has 16.9 million subscribers, and while that number grows as well, we can see why they want to offer a disk-less streaming only option to the US similar to what they offer Canadian users.
