I don’t fancy myself a geek, however, its becoming apparent that I am. I’m ok with this…

Let me start by saying I am merely a beginner. Sure I’ve used Unix
at work, done a little database editing using statements, but who
hasn’t, right? I can spout off MHz, MB to GB conversions, talk RAM, ROM,
HDD’s, and CPU’s. Come to find out this is not the norm.
Think my uber geekness came to the surface when I saw an article on
Lunux. I did some quick reading (research as geeks call it) and
downloaded Ubuntu 10.10. Guess I chose Ubuntu, over the other distros,
for its ease of use, compatibility and the n00b friendly factor. Its a
simple download once you choose how you want to install it. I chose the
make a Live CD and “test” it out a little bit. I was hooked! Smooth,
fast, and COOL! Next step was to partition my hd and install it FOR
REALZ!
Here is my setup as of a few weeks ago: http://bit.ly/hp4Wb5
After spending some time using Ubuntu, I really see no reason to
ever use windows or mac again. That being said, yes i WILL HAVE TO have
it installed. My kids, wife and work are all sheep and I must tend to
them. I have since downloaded Sabayon and created a Live DVD. I have yet
to “test” it out. From what I understand, its a little more advanced
(not quite as user friendly). Sounds right up my alley!
Anyway, thought I’d share some info and see what people thought.
Thanks
Here is a good link to do a little “reading”.

Thats Beryl, formerly compizfusion. The windows management theme. Basically what aero is to vista or windows 7. If you want the cube effect on windows you can find yod’m and many other similar apps that do the same thing.

I have ubuntu fully installed on a laptop and have to say that i have no issues using it and windows at teh same time. I have used Linux before for several years but dont consider myself a power user of any sort (at least i dont think so).

To all teh people out there on the fence, definitely give the ubuntu CD a try. I have linux installed on 3 separate machines ( i have a few), one is a dual boot windows machine.
