Review: NewerTech’s Power2U AC/USB Power Outlet

Posted on Jun 6 2012 - 3:51pm by Ty Pier

The company Newertech has given us a gift from Santa Claus, or who ever your higher power is, himself. The Power2U AC/USB Power Outlet is an outlet that goes into your wall just like any other outlet, except this one has 2 usb ports, as well as, two 3 prong outlets. Tired of the clutter? Want to be set free? Well read on my dear friends, read on!

Here at GizmoFusion we test a lot of phones, tablets and other USB charged devices. Its really annoying to have to switch between 5 different plugs and outlets just to charge our phones and laptops. Thanks to NewerTech we dont have to worry about that ever again! Having 2 USB plugs and 2 outlets has seriously made life so much easier it is unbelievable.

The Power2U has spring-loaded Safety Shutters to block the USB ports when they are not in use and when the shutters close it shuts off power to the USB devices. They make plugging USB devices in tricky the first few times, but after several times you get the hang of it and can plug in devices with one hand. This outlet is designed to charge iPads, iPhones, iPods, Android tablets and phones, tablet computers, MP3 players, GPS devices, digital cameras, and other USB 3.0/2.0/1.1 chargeable devices without the need of an adapter.

The installation only takes a few minutes and is the same as changing out any ordinary power outlet. After we installed it and flipped the power back on, we plugged in a laptop, a lamp, a phone and an iPad. All of those devices were charged perfectly without any issues from 1 wall outlet with no adapters or additional hardware! This device is a miracle product. Full feature list is below. Head over to their SITE and check out the new colors they released as well!

There are really four outlets out there: Cooper, Fastmac, Power2U, and CurrentWerks. If you look at the power available, Cooper can’t charge iPads at the full rate, Fastmac and Power2U offer 12 and 10 watts, which is enough, but just for one. (iPad @ 10W, iPhone @5W) So when you charge both, you don’t have enough. CurrentWerks has two versions, and they’re 16 and 22 watts, so you won’t have that conflict.
