Behind The Wheel: 2012 Jaguar XJL Portfolio Supercharged

If you want to experience class, elegance, comfort, and speed then we have the perfect car for you. It’s the new 2012 Jaguar XJL Portfolio Supercharged. Now this car to me is simply wow, it has room for 5 and lots of space in the trunk for a weekend getaway. Also with the XJL you can be the driver or get driven in style, read on to find out more.

The XJL has the best styling and lines of any Jaguar in a long time. First thing you notice with the XJL is the massive chrome grill which works great for this car. Normally I find that too much chrome is tacky, but with the XJL it works very well. On either side of the grill Jaguar has Bi-function HID Xenon headlamps with LED signatures and power washers with auto high beams.

Moving along to the side you have power folding mirrors with auto tint and defrost. The auto tint comes in handy when you are on the road at night. Now, going alongside you can see the nice sleek lines and the elegant chrome accents. The XJL also has a great stance, some say it looks like a cat ready to pounce. Around to the rear you have a power trunk which I doesn’t feel right in a sedan but still it can come in handy at times. But even with the power trunk lid still Jaguar holds its class and elegance with sleek tail lights and nice dual exhaust. On top you have a dual panoramic roof with electric blinds, where the  front is the only one who opens.

When sitting in the XJL you are greeted with beautiful leather seats that are 20-way adjustable with heating, cooling, massage and memory function. But one issue I find with the interior that really threw me off is the full digital gauge cluster which I find looks cheap. It is great in theory but poorly executed. Moving on to the audio/video you have an 8 inch Bowers & Wilkins 1,200 watt surround-sound system, hard disk drive and Media Hub which includes USB/iPod/AV-in in the arm rest. The whole cabin is lit up with phosphor lighting which gives it a day light look and adds class to the whole cabin. Jaguar also accented the interior with wood on the doors and on the dash which is a great contrast to the leather and suede head liner.

On to the rearseats, the passengers also get heated and cooled seats. Plus a monitor in each headrest for movies or even picking your own radio stations with the included wireless headsets. Once you have the back set up the way you want it, you can fold down the arm rest to reveal not only a cup holders and storage but you also get a small media controller with a 3 inch screen to control everything in the back.

The issue I find with the back seats is when you do pull back the cover for the moon roof it folds down and is in front of your face. Now this could be to help with privacy but I find it more of a pain for the driver. On either side of the door you have pull up shades and a rear window power up shade. If you are on the go and need to do some work in the back seat you can fold down the small table for a laptop or book.

Under the hood this XJL has a 5.0L V8 supercharged motor which gives the Jaguar 470BHP and it knows how to lay it down. It keeps to the road with rear wheel platform. In this one we had the 6 speed automatic transmission with an electric rise knob shift.

My Thoughts

All in all, the XJL Portfolio Supercharged is a great car, even with its downsides like the power trunk, digital cluster, and moon roof cover. The Jaguar XJL has awesome power, comfortable ride, and with this Jag you can either be the driver or be driven. So, I say if you have the money for a classy car and want to experience the new Jaguar by Tata motors then go to your local dealer and give it a test drive.
