Black Ops 2 Rings up $1 Billion in 15 Days

On December 5th, Activision announced that the latest installment in the Call of Duty video game series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, hit a BIG milestone – $1 Billion in sales.

The company stated that it arrived at that figure based on U.K. Chart-Track sales data as well as internal estimates. They also mentioned that it breaks the movie box office record set by Avatar, which hit a billion in 17 days. Activision noted as well that more than 150 million hours of Black Ops II have been played since release day over PSN and Xbox Live.

The news is not all rosy, however, as industry analysts have pointed out that the last two titles, Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops 2, have been trending down in overall sales. Perhaps the time is ripe for a game studio to take a shot at the king of the hill?
