Next Gen Xbox: 50GB Blu-ray Disks, Spec’s, And The Worst News… Activation Codes

Lets just get right to it and give you folks the lowdown.  The next gen Xbox is very obviously on the way, its just a matter of hearing it from Microsoft themselves.  That being said some information has come to light regarding features and spec’s, and as always its all rumor but the source has been deemed “very reliable”.  Some items you will like, some you will not.

First up is a physical drive.  Yep, its there and its Blu-ray.  Next gen Xbox games will be stored on 50GB Blu-ray disks.  With those games though comes what I consider to be the worst news of all (again if all true).  Each game will have a single activation code.  Once used the game is yours and yours only.  You can pretty much say goodbye to the used game market.  While developers can pop champagne over loosing those used games sales the consumers are the ones that hurt the most.  I’d just like to say to any developers that read this, if it was not for the used game market I wouldn’t even play half of the video games that are out there (and in turn buying their sequel’s brand new).

That being said we have what the source believes are confirmed spec’s for the new hardware.  These specs have been passed around before but this new source is a lot more reputable.  Look for an AMD eight-core x64 1.6GHz CPU, a D3D11.x 800MHz graphics solution and 8GB of DDR3 RAM.  That’s serious horsepower.  As of right now the hard drive size is not known.

What do you think of the possibility of MS locking out the sale and play of used games?  If it turns out to be true could this alter your decision on buying the next Xbox?

I don’t think it will be a big issue.

Disagree. If they do this they will suffer on sales. Guaranteed.

Most of the games I have are used. It’s what allows me to play most of them being a bit cheaper. I’ll probably pass on this one.

Definitely a problem! Most of my games I bought used. The only way these new games can be sold used is if you can PURCHASE a new code from Microsoft or the games vendor. But who would want to do that!

Just to comment, if this is true, I will not be buying the next Xbox myself.
