As an editor for GizmoFusion and an all around nerd, I am constantly asked by friends, family and even sometimes random people what ROM or what apps I use for certain tasks or on a day to day basis. My current primary device is a Toro, or Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy Nexus with a 5900mAh Zero Lemon battery. With my heavy usage I am able to get a full day out of this power hungry phone. As you can see by the screenshot above, my home screen is simple, or so it appears. Currently installed on my phone:
This ROM is the perfect combination of Paranoid Android, AOKP and CyanogenMod. IT has almost every feature currently available for custom ROMs and is based on Android 4.3. If you have a compatible device, I highly suggest giving it a try.
As a launcher I use Action Launcher Pro. This allows me to swipe to the right to see a vertical list of my apps, swipe down to see notifications, swipe up for Google Now and swipe up from an icon to see the appropriate widget. I am using Roboto Clock so I can quickly check the time and date. To theme the entire ROM I am using Holo Glass Theme thanks to PAC MAN’s Theme Engine integration.
Circle Alarm – Best alarm clock app I have found.
Facebook – To keep up with all my friends and the latest news/gossip.
Gmail – Quick access to my email.
Google+ – Use this to keep up with current news, trends, and groups I am interested in.
Hangouts – To communicate with the rest of the GizmoFusion staff as well as friends and family.
Instagram – I follow more photographers on Instagram than I do friends, great app for checking out pictures.
KeepSafe – For all those pictures you don’t want your friends to see.
Maps – Best navigation app I have found.
Play Music – Couldn’t pass up the early adopters price for All Access and I use it daily.
PYKL3 Radar – Hands down the fastest and most accurate radar available on a mobile device.
Quickoffice – Free, owned by Google, and opens all my documents.
Redbox – Easiest way to rent a movie.
Root Explorer – Not the most feature rich, but for me the best file browser around. Simple yet powerful.
Sold - I am new to this app but it seems to be a very simple way to sell things.
Swiftkey – Fastest and best predicting keyboard I have come across.
Tapatalk 4 – Most simple way to read forums on Android.
Terminal Emulator – For when I am feeling really nerdy.
Titanium Backup – Use it mostly to delete system apps from a freshly installed ROM and to backup SMS messages.
Torch – You can never have to many flashlights.
Trickster MOD – Extremely powerful and easy to use Kernel settings app.
TweetCaster Pro – My favorite, for this week, Twitter client.
Voice – Used mostly for visual voice mail.
Wallet – Quick way to pay at the few stores near me that accept it.
Wunderlist – Best way I have found to keep track of my busy life.
YouTube – Have to stay up to date with my subscribed channels.
I would like to note, if available I always purchase the donate, pro, or key version of all apps that I decide to keep to help support the developers. Thanks to everyone that has contributed to what I have installed on my phone and made my life easier.
