Top Choices Under $600

So, here is the GizmoFusion list of laptops that deliver in performance while not breaking the bank.

Acer Swift 3

Acer Swift 3

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700U (2.2Ghz) | GPU: AMD Radeon RX540 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS | Storage: 256GB SSD | Battery: 12-13 hours | Dimensions: 14.6 x 10 x 0.7 inches | Weight: 4.63 lbs

Great CPU
Good GPU
Lots of RAM
SSD storage
Great display
Long battery life
No CD/DVD player
No ethernet port
RAM is not upgradeable

The Acer Swift 3 which is the best overall laptop packs a punch with its AMD Ryzen 7 CPU. This high-end processor handles any task that requires CPU power with ease.

It works great with the dedicated AMD Radeon RX540 graphics card, which is great for video rendering tasks, such as video editing and animation. It is the most powerful graphics card on this list and will power through anything.

It has 8GB of RAM for advanced multitasking, meaning that you can have several browser tabs open while using an application like Adobe Photoshop. A large amount of RAM also allows for fast switching between apps. With a small amount of memory, switching between apps makes it so the apps load before showing. With 8GB that problem does not happen, and switching between apps is quick and seamless.

The storage on this laptop is a 256GB SSD. While it isn’t a huge amount of storage, it still is spacious for lots of files and programs. You still need to be somewhat conservative of your storage, and maybe use cloud storage, i. e. OneDrive.

The SSD makes it so the boot-up times on the laptop are speedy, and in general, the read/write/transfer speeds on SSDs are much better than traditional hard drives.

The laptop has a full HD, crisp 1080p IPS monitor, meaning that the colors on the display are very bright, vibrant, and accurate. IPS panels also make it so viewing angles on the display are great, you can look at it from the side and still have the colors be bright.

The display is also laminated with gorilla glass, meaning that it is tough, and hard to break. The battery life on this laptop is exceptional, coming in at 12-13 hours. That is a huge amount of time for working the whole day without recharging, or for example, long plane trips where you can’t recharge for a long time.

It has a beautiful, sleek, and thin silver design that is pleasing to the eye. It has a nice fingerprint reader for easy unlocking and a backlit keyboard.

The laptop only has little things to complain about. One thing is that it doesn’t have an optical drive for CD/DVDs, which means if you have movies on a DVD you have to use an external player.

Secondly, the laptop does not have an Ethernet port. You will have to use wifi or use a USB to Ethernet adapter.

Lastly, if you plan to upgrade the RAM later, you won’t be able to do it, it just simply isn’t upgradeable. But these are just little things that do not take away from the experience of this great laptop. This machine is a prime example of “bang for the buck”, and packs many features that make it stand out.

Lenovo 20NF0018US

Lenovo 20NF0018US

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700U 2.3Ghz | GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS | Storage: 256GB SSD | Battery: 6-8 hours | Dimensions: 14.5 x 9.9 x 0.8 inches | Weight: 6.05 lbs

Great CPU
Nice amount of RAM
SSD storage
Great display
No CD/DVD drive
Average battery life

This Lenovo ThinkPad is a great laptop with a Ryzen 7 3700U high-end processor. It can handle any task that requires processing power, like rendering many entities on screen at once.

It is a very strong high-end processor that is worthy of a great GPU, which is the RX Vega 10, which is a good GPU that can handle most graphics-intensive tasks and processes.

It has 8GB of DDR4 memory, which always helps with multitasking. Being able to multitask definitely increases productivity, and makes switching between apps fast and seamless without any loading times. It also takes stress off of the CPU which is great and allows for more processes to run at once.

The laptop houses a 256GB SSD, which is a subjectively small amount of storage, however, it is an SSD, making it so transfer speeds are much faster and boot up times are speedy. 256GB will still last for a long time, just not as much as bigger 512GB SSDs, or a 1TB HDD.

It has a 1080p full HD display, which is a full HD resolution, and produces crisp and clear images. The display uses an IPS panel which produces vivid and accurate colors makes it so viewing angles are great, viewing the display from any side makes it so the colors are the same as when viewed from the front, and greatly improves the experience of the laptop.

The battery has an average battery life, which is only 6-8 hours. While it isn’t very little, it still isn’t that great if you plan to work for very long periods of time, or more than one day. Another little thing to complain about is that this laptop does not have an optical drive, so no CD/DVDs.

The laptop has a traditional ThinkPad design, an all-black matte finish with touches of red. There is a button that serves as an extra touchpad in the middle of the keyboard and a singular power button above the keyboard, a simple, clean, and convenient design suited for a laptop like this. Other than that, the laptop doesn’t have any extra features, it’s a great laptop with its great specs and brilliant display.

Lenovo Flex 14

Lenovo Flex 14

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500U 2.1 Ghz | GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 | RAM: 12GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS Touchscreen | Storage: 256GB SSD | Battery: 4-5 hours | Dimensions: 12.9 x 9 x 0.7 inches | Weight: 3.52 lbs

Good CPU
Lots of RAM
Great display
Nice storage
Mediocre battery life
Weak speakers

This laptop is a 2-in-1 convertible PC that can either be a laptop or a tablet. It houses a Ryzen 5 3500U processor, which is not as great as the Ryzen 7, but still has great performance, and will handle most productivity tasks with ease.

The processor has an integrated GPU which is the AMD Radeon RX Vega 8. It isn’t the greatest GPU, however, it will easily handle low to mid-range GPU intensive tasks.

The RAM on this laptop is plenty. Instead of 8GB like on the laptops above, it comes in at 12GB, making the laptop even better for multitasking. As someone who needs to work on multiple things at once, the RAM will make it seamless, and switching between apps will be without delays.

The laptop has 256GB of SSD storage, which isn’t a lot, but will still house a decent amount of files and programs. It is SSD storage, meaning that the speed of booting up and transferring files are high, and are much better than traditional hard disk drives since there are no moving parts in an SSD.

It has a 1080p IPS display. A full HD resolution with an IPS panel produces clear, crisp, and colorful images with wide viewing angles that do not compromise the color displayed.

The laptop has mediocre battery life coming in at around 4-5 hours. While it isn’t very little, it would be nice to have something that lasts a bit longer, especially if you plan to take long trips, or work for more than one day.

The design of this 2-in-1 laptop is all black, while the keyboard is grey and each key has rounded edges for a clean, simplistic look.

The display folds all the way back to turn the laptop into tablet mode. The display is also touchscreen and works both with fingers or a stylus. This is why 2-in-1 laptops are convenient for jobs such as graphic designers, at any point you can fold the laptop into tablet mode and use a stylus to draw.

The laptop itself is less than an inch thick which is both aesthetically pleasing and convenient.

HP Touchscreen Laptop

HP Touchscreen Laptop

CPU: Intel Core i5-7200U 2.5Ghz | GPU: Intel HD Graphics 620 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6-inch (1,336 x 768) Touchscreen | Storage: 2TB HDD + 128GB SSD | Battery: 6-8 hours | Dimensions: 14.96 x 9.99 x 0.94 inches | Weight: 4.85 lbs

Great CPU
Lots of RAM
Tons of storage
768p display
Average battery life

This HP laptop seems underrated, an “underdog” if you will, but it contains many features that make it stand out as one of the best laptops at this price point.

One of them is the great Intel Core i5 7th-generation CPU. This processor packs a punch and can go a long way with productivity tasks. The processor integrates Intel HD Graphics 620, which is a decent GPU that can handle some mid-range tasks that require video processing, such as video editing.

The PC also includes 8GB of DDR4 RAM. As always with RAM, 8GB is a great amount for multitasking and switching between apps, allowing for working on multiple projects at once, or having many browser tabs open, therefore allowing for better productivity.

The storage on this laptop, however, is the star of the show. The laptop has two terabytes of hard drive storage, allowing for years of programs and files to be stored on the drive. As an added bonus, there is a 128 gigabyte SSD for the operating system (for faster boot-up times) and programs/files that you need to load up as fast as possible.

The display for this laptop is a touchscreen 1336×768 display. Nowadays, the standard for laptop displays is a 1920×1080 resolution, thus making this laptop’s screen underwhelming.

The battery life, though, is average on this laptop, coming in at 6-8 hours, allowing for long periods of work, and being useful on long plane trips.

The laptop has a silver design with a glossy finish. It is a bit on the thick side, but it still looks great.

It has all the ports, including an Ethernet jack, however, it does not have a disc drive, so you are not able to watch movies/listen to CDs without an external drive.

The laptop is also very easily upgradeable, both the RAM and storage can be upgraded (although the storage is already great).

Overall, if you are willing to compromise on the display to get a large amount of storage, this laptop would be great for you.

ASUS VivoBook S

 ASUS VivoBook S

CPU: Intel Core i5-8250U 1.8Ghz | GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS | Storage: 256GB SSD | Battery: 8-9 hours | Dimensions: 14.2 x 9.6 x 0.7 inches | Weight: 3.7 lbs

Great CPU
Lots of RAM
SSD storage
Brilliant display
Exceptional battery life
Bad speaker quality
Low-quality webcam

This ASUS VivoBook packs a punch, just like the other Asus VivoBooks on the market with its Intel Core i5 8th-generation processor, which powers through any CPU intensive task in its way. The processor integrates Intel UHD Graphics 620, which is an average GPU which will be fine with mid-range GPU tasks.

It has 8GB of DDR4 RAM to boost productivity by improving multitasking and switching between apps. 8GB is a standard for laptops nowadays, and is a nice amount for multitasking, for example browsing the internet while animating with Adobe Flash.

It has a 256GB SSD, which is not that much storage but will still last you for a long time. The important thing is that it is a solid-state drive which means it makes the speed of booting up the computer and transferring files quickly, and much faster than traditional hard drives.

The laptop has a brilliant 1080p Full HD IPS monitor. It produces crisp, clear images that are of high resolution. The IPS panel makes it so the colors on the monitor are very bright and vibrant, and viewing angles are always great.

The battery life on this laptop is exceptional, coming in at 8-9 hours. This is great for long trips, conferences, and generally any event that requires working for a long time before recharging. 9 hours of work time is great for working more than one day.

The laptop has an “icicle gold” color, the lid is brushed metal and the rest is durable plastic. The laptop is 0.7 inches thick and has a sleek design that is sure to please the eye.

The laptop also has a great fingerprint sensor for easy unlocking. One thing to complain about is the placement of the speakers, they are placed under the laptop, so when it is placed on a flat surface, it is hard to hear at lower volumes.

Also, the webcam looks very blurry. Other than that, the laptop is a powerful, stylish machine.

HP EliteBook 840

HP EliteBook 840

CPU: Intel Core i5-6300U 2.4Ghz | GPU: Intel HD Graphics 520 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 14-inch HD (1,366 x 768) | Storage: 256GB SSD | Battery: 6-8 hours | Dimensions: 9.3 x 13.3 x 0.7 inches | Weight: 3.26 lbs

Great CPU
Nice amount of RAM
SSD storage
768p display
Webcam is blurry
Average battery life

This HP EliteBook houses a powerful Intel Core i5-6300U, which will smoothly handle any task that comes up that requires processing power. The CPU includes an Intel HD Graphics 520 chip, which is below average, however, still will easily handle low-end graphics processing tasks.

The laptop has 8GB of DDR4 memory, which always means that multitasking will be a breeze, and switching between apps will be seamless and quick without loading times.

As usual for this price range, for storage, we get a 256GB SSD. As had been said before, 256 is not that much (it will still last for a long time though), however, the storage is on a solid-state drive, which is much faster than a regular hard disk drive, and allows for fast file transfers and boot up times.

The laptop has a below-average 14-inch 768p display. The standard for laptop screens is a 1080p display, so a 768p display is sub-par.

However, the battery life on this laptop is average, coming in at 6-8 hours, but it still means that it will be able to last for long periods of work without recharging.

It has a fingerprint sensor for easy unlocking, which is always convenient. It does have a low-quality webcam, however, the laptop is a great machine, and will serve as a great business laptop.

Microsoft Surface

Microsoft Surface

CPU: Intel Core i5-7200U 2.5Ghz | GPU: Intel HD Graphics 620 | RAM: 4GB DDR4 | Screen: 15-inch (2256 x 1504) Touchscreen | Storage: 128GB SSD | Battery: 12-13 hours | Dimensions: 0.57 x 12.13 x 8.79 inches | Weight: 2.76 lbs

Great CPU
1504p resolution
Exceptional battery life
Little RAM
Little storage
3:2 aspect ratio

The 1st generation Microsoft Surface Laptop (not the pro version) has a beautiful, sleek design with a high-resolution display. It houses an Intel Core i5-7200U, a laptop CPU that is great for productivity tasks. It has an integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 chip which is a decent GPU for mid-range video processing tasks.

It has 4GB of DDR4 RAM. It is not much, it is recommended to have at least 8GB of memory to multitask efficiently, but 4GB will still be useful. However, you will still notice loading times when switching between apps, or opening up too many browser tabs or applications. The memory is not upgradeable, sadly.

The storage on this laptop is a 128GB SSD. While it is fast SSD storage, it is only 128 gigabytes, and you would be surprised at how fast that storage fills up. It will definitely not last you as long as a 256GB drive, and generally, it is not a lot of storage, so it is recommended to be conservative with it. Unfortunately, it is also not upgradeable, so it leaves the storage to be desired.

The laptop has a 1504p screen with a strange 3:2 aspect ratio, very strange! Usually, screens are 16:9 aspect ratio with 1080p resolution. This screen is a great resolution at an unusual aspect ratio. The screen is a little bit narrower than normal displays.

The laptop is super thin at only half an inch and has a sleek design. The lid is a matt grey plastic, and the rest is covered with fabric for a luxurious feel.

The battery life on this laptop is exceptional coming in at 12-13 hours of nonstop browsing. This is amazing for long trips and conferences, and it is definitely possible to use this laptop for more than one day.

Asus VivoBook 15

Asus VivoBook 15

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5-3500U 2.4Ghz | GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS | Storage: 1TB HDD + 128GB SSD | Battery: 6-7 hours | Dimensions: 14.1 x 9.1 x 0.7 inches | Weight: 3.5 lbs

Great CPU
Good GPU
Nice amount of RAM
Lots of storage
Brilliant display
Average battery life
Small SSD
Quiet speakers

This is the second VivoBook on this list, this one is the VivoBook 15. It houses a Ryzen 5-3500U, which is one of the latest generation AMD processors which handles any CPU intensive task with ease. It has integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics which is a decent chip for mid-range GPU intensive processes.

It has a usual 8GB of random access memory for easy multitasking and switching between apps with speed and stability, which therefore increases productivity.

The most important thing about this laptop, though, is the storage. It has a whole terabyte of hard disk drive storage and a 128GB SSD. The 1TB HDD will be very helpful for storing loads of files and programs for years, while the SSD gives a little bit of storage for your main programs and the operating system for fast boot times. Generally, the storage will be more than enough for a very long time.

The display on this laptop is a great 1080p IPS panel for accurate, vibrant, and bright colors with a high resolution and wide viewing angles.

The battery life on this laptop comes in at an average 6-7 hours. Not too short, not long. Just enough to get through the day, maybe through a quick travel trip.

It has a stylish design which stands out with its silver metal and plastic. It is also very thin, which is always great. The speakers are also a little bit quiet. Generally, the laptop is nice, with lots of storage and a great display.

Lenovo Flex 5

Lenovo Flex 5

CPU: Intel Core i5-8250U 1.6Ghz | GPU: Intel HD Graphics 620 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS Touchscreen | Storage: 256GB SSD | Battery: 6-7 hours | Dimensions: 9.7 x 0.8 x 14.3 inches | Weight: 4.4 lbs

Great CPU
Good GPU
Nice amount of RAM
SSD storage
Great display
Average battery life
No DVD drive
A little too big in tablet mode

The Lenovo Flex 5 is a 2-in-1 laptop that has good specs for a workstation PC. Housing an Intel Core i5 8th-generation CPU (not to be mistaken as a “Core i8-8250U” listed on the Amazon product description), it will easily handle any task that requires processing power.

In the processor sits an Intel HD Graphics 620 chip for any graphics-intensive programs, such as video rendering, or animation.

The laptop also has 8GB of DDR4 memory, a great amount, and enough for multitasking. With this amount of RAM, you can have several Chrome tabs open, while also working on Photoshop. Also, switching between different apps will be quick and seamless, without any loading times.

The storage on this laptop is a regular 256GB SSD which is a nice amount of space for your files and programs. The PCIe SSD makes it so transfer speeds on the drive are much faster than traditional HDDs, and boot up times are quick.

The display on this laptop is a great 1080p full HD screen. It has an IPS panel making it so colors are great, and are easily seen from any angle, even from the side, the colors remain the same.

The battery life on the PC is average, only reaching about 7 hours. It definitely isn’t bad, but you might need to recharge somewhere during the day.

The laptop has all the convenient features of a 2-in-1 laptop such as a 360-degree hinge and a touchscreen display with stylus compatibility. The laptop also has some great speakers which face up instead of down for easy listening. Overall, the laptop is a great machine with lots of extra features.

Dell Inspiron 15

Dell Inspiron 15

 CPU: AMD Ryzen 5-2500U 2Ghz | GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 15.6-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) | Storage: 256GB SSD | Battery: 5-6 hours | Dimensions: 10.16 x 14.96 x 0.78 inches | Weight: 6.4 lbs

Good CPU
Decent GPU
Nice amount of RAM
SSD storage
Not IPS display
Low battery life
No optical drive

This Dell laptop has a nice Ryzen 5-2500U laptop CPU which is great for mid-range tasks that require CPU power. Integrated into it is an AMD Vega 8 Graphics chip. This is a decent GPU that is capable of performing mid-range graphics intensive tasks.

The laptop also has 8GB of RAM, a large amount for lots of multitasking. With the memory you are able to open several Chrome tabs while working on other applications. Switching between many apps with a large amount of RAM is seamless, and is without any loading times.

The laptop has a 256GB SSD, it’s enough for many files and programs, and will last for a while. It is also a solid state drive, meaning that read/write/transfer speeds are much faster than older HDDs.

This laptop has a 1080p full resolution display, meaning crisp images without blurriness. The display, however, does not have an IPS panel. Those panels usually make it so the viewing angles on the laptop are great and the colors are vibrant, however, on this display, looking at it from the side will make it appear dark.

The battery life on this laptop is not great, it only reaches about 6 hours of work time, which is not great if you are planning to take long trips without recharging the laptop, and it cannot be used for working more than one day, unless you plan on using it very little.

It has a regular black design which looks nice and simple. It has lots of connectivity, including ethernet, but does not have a disc drive for CD/DVD. Overall, it’s a nice laptop with decent specs.

Asus C302CA-AH74 Chromebook

ASUS C302CA-AH74 Chromebook

CPU: Intel Core m7-6Y75 1.2GHz | GPU: Intel HD Graphics 515 | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Screen: 12.5-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080) IPS | Storage: 64GB MultiMedia Card | Battery: 6-8 hours | Dimensions: 12 x 8.3 x 0.5 inches | Weight: 2.65 lbs

Lots of RAM
Nice display
Great battery life
Chrome OS
Bad CPU and GPU
64GB of storage

This is something different on this list, a Chromebook. A chromebook is a laptop with the operating system that only allows access to the internet and the Android Play Store. It is not Windows OS like the other laptops on this list.

The Chromebook houses an Intel Core m7-6Y75, a strange choice. The CPU is equivalent to a Core i5-5650U, an older CPU that is sub-par by current standards but can still handle some low-end processing tasks.

The same goes for the GPU. The Intel HD Graphics 515 isn’t amazing, but the point is that the only thing you can do on Chromebooks is browsing the internet and using mobile apps, which doesn’t require great specs.

The Chromebook has 8GB of RAM, you can open many Chrome tabs without lagging a lot, which is very useful for work.

The storage on this Chromebook is lackluster, coming in at only 64GB of SSD storage. This seems little, but keep in mind that Chromebooks only store Android apps and the occasional video, photo, and text files, so 64GB should be enough.

The battery for a Chromebook is nice, coming in at 6-8 hours. There isn’t much to drain the battery of a Chromebook.

Overall, this lightweight laptop is great if all you want to do is browse the Internet, but won’t be good for anything that requires actually downloading programs.

Best Overall Buy

The best laptop on this list is the Acer Swift 3 laptop for many reasons. Firstly, it has a very powerful AMD Ryzen 7 processor which is a great CPU capable of many tasks.

The laptop also includes a dedicated GPU, meaning that it isn’t just a chip inside the processor, it is a separate mobile chip. It performs much better than integrated chips, and is the best graphics chip you can find in laptops under $600.

Acer Swift 3

In the laptop sits 8 gigabytes of DDR4 high-speed memory. Memory is an important aspect of PCs, making it much easier to multitask.

It offers 256 gigabytes of SSD storage, it isn’t a huge amount of storage, the sweet spot of storage is around 500 gigabytes, however, it will still last you a long time to store many files without problems.

The laptop has a 1920 x 1080 full HD monitor, meaning that all content displayed on it will be a high resolution without any blurriness. It uses an IPS panel for great colors and viewing angles even from the side, the colors will not look washed out and dark, but indeed be fully retained.

The laptop also has a brilliant battery life. 12-13 hours of non-stop work is exceptional. This is great for working for long periods of time, or even for more than one day.

Finally, this laptop has many extras, for one, it has a sleek, all-metal design, and is very sturdy while remaining lightweight.

It also has a fingerprint sensor for easy unlocking and a backlit keyboard.

Overall, it has everything, from great specs, to great battery life, and many extras that make this laptop stand out as the number one laptop on our list.
